Dog Training Advice And Ways To Assist An Animal Walk On The Lead

By Victor Joseph

When a pet owner purchases a new puppy or dog, they may wonder how to teach them to walk on a leash. There are various ways that an owner can get their canine to walk better for them. Dog training advice that works may have a person looking at their own methods and adding some new ideas to their system.

One of the first things to consider when learning how to better manage outside time, is to think about the type of leash picked. A large breed may need a sturdy type system that is supportive around their body and neck. Smaller dogs may only need a thin strap to hold them properly. Some designs will feature a release system that will let the strap unwind until it eventually stops the pup from walking.

Before an owner heads out with their dog, they will want to ensure that they are first. The dog will need to learn right away that they are not in charge and that the owner actually is. If going outside involves the pup pulling eagerly forward, it could have them thinking that they will be running the session outside.

Small and broken treats can be kept in the pocket. These rewards may be given out for excellent walking and staying beside the owner. The bite size pieces can be tossed into mouth as the walk is happening.

A dog may walk along side of the owner at all times. The only exception may be at a park or large green space. Dog feet will need to be along side of owner legs without any pulling or leading.

Heading to a park should consist of a dog and owner walking side by side. There should be no pulling or leading from the pet. A park or green area is the best place to let a puppy run and get some exercise. If the pet learns how to manage their walk to the park they will not pull their owner during specific walk times.

Using the best dog training advice will help someone master the art of outdoor strolls. When a puppy has the skills needed to stay beside their people owner, then they will have a happy time with their outings. When a dog is trained, it can make the process easier for both the owner and the canine.

8 Simple Tips For Keeping Your Pet Birds Health.

By Margaret Burgess

Just like any other animal, birds need to be fed a balanced, nutritious diet in order to thrive and have a long, healthy life. A diet that is not rich in important nutrients can lead to malnutrition and to a much shorter length of life. Feed your bird well from the very beginning.

Parrots and most other birds in the same family can eat a large variety of different foods. Seeds should not be the only thing you feed a parrot. Unfortunately, most new owners don't know any better, and that is all they feed them. Seeds contain mostly fat and not enough protein and very few vitamins.

Even if birds can generally eat most human foods, it is best for them to mostly eat whole grains, bread, pasta and pretzel. Try not to give them any foods high in fat. Never feed birds avocados, since they are toxic to some species.

Good sources of nutrition for your bird include beans and legumes as well as various vegetables and fruits. Some birds are much more open than others to try foods they have never tried before, while others only stick to foods they are familiar with. Although it may take some time keep trying to introduce your bird to a variety of healthy foods.

Introduce new things slowly. Offer fresh foods for about an hour twice a day. Fresh food left there for too long can develop bacteria and make the bird sick.

Feed the bird a couple of times a day. The bird will be hungrier and much more active that way. Having a good appetite will also make your bird more willing to try new foods you introduce. Feeding at set times twice per day will also allow you to be able to monitor how much your bird is eating. If your bird is not eating well this can tell you that it is not feeling well or has a health problem.

If your bird does not eat certain foods, try cooking them before you offer them to your bird. Take away seeds except at meal time until your bird starts eating healthy foods on a regular basis.

Just as water is necessary for people it is also necessary for healthy birds. Keep your bird's water dish filled with fresh, clean water at all times. Since your bird's water bowl will get dirty very easily, wash it with hot water and soap every day. Take also the time to clean it with a bleach solution every couple of weeks. It's also a good idea to give your bird some water soluble vitamins you can add to its drinking water every day.

Birds make wonderful pets for the whole family and they can live a long time if taken care of properly. Feeding your bird a balanced, nutritious diet of seeds, fruits and vegetables will ensure you do all you can to keep your bird healthy.

Learn About Bringing A New Kitten Home

By Mark Walters

People crave companionship. There is nothing better than coming home from a long day at work to a happy face that is thrilled to see you. One of the most popular pets is a cat, and cats get no more adorable than when they are kittens. You will likely be excited when bringing home a new friend, but don't forget to prepare your home for the arrival of your new kitten.

As human beings, we stand upright much of the time and walk on two legs. It's easy to forget the things below our line of sight that would be irresistible and potentially dangerous to a kitten that spends its life close to the floor. It might sound silly, but you have to think like a kitten. Get low and start to explore. Look up frequently and even lie on your back so that you get a good look at things that dangle like wires, cords, and stray pieces of cloth. It's a good idea to secure these items with tape or under rugs so that no harm comes to your new kitten. You can't stop a kitten from leaping, but you can greatly reduce the chances that one of those jumps will use up one of its nine lives.

You don't want your kitten to be bored as soon as it reaches its new home, so be sure that some fun toys are placed around the house. Stuffed mice, balls, scratching posts, and even laser pointers will keep your kitten occupied for a good amount of time. In your excitement, it is easy to forget that your kitten will get hungry, so don't forget to have food on hand before you even get your companion home. A litter box filled with litter is an even higher priority. Needless to say, that is one thing you won't want to be without when the times.

Cats, just like humans, get stressed, become frightened, and like to relax, so prepare a room for your kitten in which they can get away from it all. This could be your bedroom, a closet, or any room that is out of the way. Make it easily accessible, because you don't want to force the kitten into it. Let them find it on their own.

With just a little foresight, you can easily prepare your home for the arrival of a new kitten. Making your home welcoming and safe for the kitten will keep it happy. And a happy kitten equals a happy owner.

Using Pet Friendly Rentals

By Owen Jones

Most people really love their pets, to the point where they become part of the family. Some pet owners cannot stand to be separated from their pets for more than a day or so and for these people, going on holiday can be a problem, because they do not want to leave their friends behind. Clearly the solution is to take your cat or dog with you. Dogs are easier to take away than cats, because they are more well-trained

If you are only going for a few days, say on business, finding a hotel near to the location of your meeting should not be too much of a problem, unless you want to stay at one of the big names in the city centre. It is often the smaller, family-run hotels or guest houses that consent to pets, although some want you to keep your dog in a kennel on the premises overnight. larger hotels tend not to be very pet-friendly.

If you intend taking your pet with you, it is better if you make this clear when you make your booking as more hotels do not allow pets than do allow them. Often there is no extra charge for a pet, but you are responsible for any extra cleaning costs, should your pet have an accident.

If you are going away on holiday or for a longer period of time, it is usually a lot easier to find a holiday rental that will allow you to take your cat or dog with you. Again, it is wisest to make it obvious at booking that you want to take your dog with you. Luckily, there are about fifty percent of rentals or more that will permit this, although once again, you will be held responsible for any damage or mess caused by your dog.

A tip: if on getting there, you see that previous pets have caused some damage or stains, take photographs on your first day and have them dated. Modern cameras often have the facility to date stamp photos or you can use a newspaper. Otherwise, point out the damage to your host.

When you travel with your dog, it is best to put the animal in some sort of a cage particularly when driving. A loving dog can be a distraction in a car. If it wants attention just when you are trying to perform a complicated manouevre, it can result in an accident. Some dogs get very frightened in cars and want to sit on their owner's lap, this is also not a good idea and could lead to a charge of dangerous driving. Furthermore, if your dog is not caged and you have an accident, it could be hurled through the windscreen. If you are travelling by air, then the airline will insist on a cage, but they normally have their own.

Once you arrive at your pet-friendly rental, give your dog some of his normal food to eat, spread out his blanket from home, and put out one of his favourite toys, just to help make him feel at home. After all, everything will be alien to him and he might be able to smell the previous furry tenant. If cleaning staff will be going into your rental during your vacation, make sure that you are there at least for the first few times they call.
