Learn About Bringing A New Kitten Home

By Mark Walters

People crave companionship. There is nothing better than coming home from a long day at work to a happy face that is thrilled to see you. One of the most popular pets is a cat, and cats get no more adorable than when they are kittens. You will likely be excited when bringing home a new friend, but don't forget to prepare your home for the arrival of your new kitten.

As human beings, we stand upright much of the time and walk on two legs. It's easy to forget the things below our line of sight that would be irresistible and potentially dangerous to a kitten that spends its life close to the floor. It might sound silly, but you have to think like a kitten. Get low and start to explore. Look up frequently and even lie on your back so that you get a good look at things that dangle like wires, cords, and stray pieces of cloth. It's a good idea to secure these items with tape or under rugs so that no harm comes to your new kitten. You can't stop a kitten from leaping, but you can greatly reduce the chances that one of those jumps will use up one of its nine lives.

You don't want your kitten to be bored as soon as it reaches its new home, so be sure that some fun toys are placed around the house. Stuffed mice, balls, scratching posts, and even laser pointers will keep your kitten occupied for a good amount of time. In your excitement, it is easy to forget that your kitten will get hungry, so don't forget to have food on hand before you even get your companion home. A litter box filled with litter is an even higher priority. Needless to say, that is one thing you won't want to be without when the times.

Cats, just like humans, get stressed, become frightened, and like to relax, so prepare a room for your kitten in which they can get away from it all. This could be your bedroom, a closet, or any room that is out of the way. Make it easily accessible, because you don't want to force the kitten into it. Let them find it on their own.

With just a little foresight, you can easily prepare your home for the arrival of a new kitten. Making your home welcoming and safe for the kitten will keep it happy. And a happy kitten equals a happy owner.
